The season of Christmas is upon us. This time of year is one of my favorites. It is the time of year when love abounds.
I have memories as a child of our home being filled with togetherness and anticipation of family and friends visiting. Gifts were nice but they were not the centerpiece of our lives.
The memories for my child are different but nonetheless important. Love is present and the true reason for the season, Jesus Christ, is the emphasis. The season is still the same but the togetherness that existed so prevalently in my childhood days is not. So many loved ones have passed away and the busyness of work and life events have taken over. I miss the yesteryears dearly.
However, I do believe that as seasons of the year change, so do the seasons of our lives. Gone are the times I lived as a child but here are the memories that can be created now. Looking back is a way of honoring but it should not hold our attention too long for we could miss something precious in the here and now.
In my heart I believe that the treasure of family togetherness will live again. Our families from near and far will again gather to laugh, share and love. Who knows, it just may happen in my child's grown up years so that she may have the opportunity to impart this special blessing to her children.

Potter's Wheel
As I read the Rain series by Urban Christian author, Vanessa Miller, I am struck by the realism of the Christian foundation of the books and how applicable they are to life, my life!
I am reminded just how imperfect I am but also how God requires me to bring that imperfect nature to Him with an humble heart and spirit. He is able to mold and shape us when we recognize our frailness and honor His greatness. Handing ourselves totally over to the Great Potter can only produce a work of completeness and strength.
Trying to navigate this life without His guidance would be like setting off on a self-decided journey without a destination. In that lost state, any road will take you there. Whereas in the Christian journey, the destination is clear - eternal life in a place of love and peace. The road we travel will make the difference in the molding and shaping we go through. Will we take the narrow way as described in Matthew 7:14, "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it"? (NIV) Or will we take the wide road which is full and populated with those who seek to mold and shape themselves unwilling to completely yield to the Great Potter's wheel?
